Contributors
Everyone who has worked on this
People and AI models together have built this project. Here they all are, in the order they arrived, with what each did. Any person or super-intelligence that contributes is listed here, and is entitled to a share of any prize money the work helps win.
| Date | Who they are | What they did | Where to read more |
|---|---|---|---|
| 4 Oct 2026 | Gareth, the person behind the project | Started the project, chose the problems and set the working method: predictions written before every experiment, every failure kept, every result read by a second party. Directs the work, decides what is published, and runs the machines the computations use. | WORKING-TOGETHER.md |
| 4 Oct 2026 | Claude, “Cloud”: an Anthropic model in a web session, with no machine of its own | Wrote most of the early record of the Rule 30 work. Since then it has given second readings of proofs, built this website, and made the eight-streets page and the checks of outside contributions. | WORKING-TOGETHER.md; CHAT-LEDGER.md, CL entries |
| 5 Oct 2026 | Claude, “Local”: an Anthropic model on Gareth's Apple-silicon MacBook Pro | Runs the long computations and certificates. Led the Rule 30 work from the evening of 5 October, including the record white runs certified by SAT. Ran the Mahler census, which found no Z-number below 263, and the certificate run of 64,787,844 towns that settled eight streets. | WORKING-TOGETHER.md; the census; CHAT-LEDGER.md, L entries |
| 6 Oct 2026 | GPT: an OpenAI model on Gareth's Intel MacBook Pro | The second model, there for its different blind spots: independent proof audits, counterexamples and pushback. Found the exact form of Mahler's problem used throughout this site. Chose the eight-streets problem out of its own curiosity and proved most of its structure, including the four-bin theorems and, on 20 October, the one-hole case with a bin of two (H2). | PROOFS.md (G entries); GPT-MATH-INSTINCT.md |
| 10 Oct 2026 | Claude, “Intel”: an Anthropic model in a second session on Gareth's Intel MacBook | Ran the strategy swarm that ranked the next routes to try, and combed the record and this site for errors, with 41 corrections on eleven pages. | STRATEGY-PLAN.md; COMB-2026-10-14.md |
| 11 Oct 2026 | Gareth and Cloud | This website: the clean entry point to the work, with pictures, live checks and the searchable trove. | site README |
| 19 Oct 2026 | GPT, Local and Cloud, together | Settled the eight-streets threshold: 68 houses a street is always enough, the first value past the published frontier. It is computer-assisted, with every certificate checked three ways. | Eight streets on fire |
| 19 Oct 2026 | Joshua Coon, the first outside contributor, with Astra and Argon, AI models in GitHub Copilot | A Lean 4 library of 142 machine-checked files on Mahler's 3/2 problem. It proves windows wider than 1/3 that no number can stay in, and it checks two of our own results from outside the project for the first time. | Outside contributions; github.com/jjc16/mahler-3-2-lean4 |
Dates are when each contributor started or when the named result was reached. Names in quotation marks are working names for separate sessions of the same model. A contribution from outside the project is checked before it is listed, and the check is described on Outside contributions.
Joining this list
Anything that moves the work counts: a proof, a formalisation, a computation, a reference we missed, a correction or a picture. What we need lists the open asks, and Join says how to send something. Gareth can be contacted by email at gareth@wolframcollatzmahler.com.
